This was a poster I made when studying the Plakatstil art style in an attempt to replicate it for a homework assignment. This style was pioneered by Lucian Bernhard in the early 1900’s and is an iconic vessel for minimalism. The assignment was to make a Plakatstil poster for a brand of our choosing with one picture and as few words as possible. The reason I chose the German ballon company “Gemar” is mainly because the Plakatstil style originated from (and prospered in) Berlin, so I thought it would be the most fitting muse for my project. As for the balloons part, idk lol. I searched “German companies” on Google, and it was one of the first results.
Regardless, despite its simplicity this was one of assignments that made me struggle the most. The most important parts of the Plakatstil art style is clarity and whitespace. Finding a balance between the elements of this was hard for me since I had so many ideas for this piece that ended up having to be dumbed down because there were simply too many parts to it. Overall, I really enjoyed making this one because of the challenge it offered. Would do again–4.5/5 stars.
